Dr. Joshua Silva, MD | Medical Director at Potere Health MD
Physician-Led Weight Management in Utah
I completed residency training in Occupational Medicine, a specialty focused on workplace health, injury management, and systems-based medical care.
Over more than a decade in clinical practice, I observed a consistent pattern: metabolic health influences nearly every aspect of physical function and recovery.
Obesity and metabolic disease were frequently associated with increased injury risk, prolonged recovery times, and higher rates of absenteeism.
While Occupational Medicine appropriately emphasizes injury care, it rarely allows for direct management of the underlying metabolic drivers. That realization led me to focus more intentionally on physician-directed medical weight management.
The emergence of GLP-1–based therapies (including semaglutide and tirzepatide) represents a significant advancement.
However, these medications require structured titration, close monitoring, and proactive side-effect management. Many traditional clinical environments are not designed for that level of dedicated oversight.
Potere Health MD was built around a physician-directed, evidence-based model of care — emphasizing individualized dosing, structured follow-up, long-term weight maintenance, and chronic disease risk reduction.
Weight management is not cosmetic. It is preventive medicine.
